Our company has its roots in a family-run upholstery shop founded in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1959 by Mason and Virginia Terry. With son Steve at the helm, Terry's Upholstery grew from a true mom and pop organization to one of the largest regional upholstery companies in North Carolina, branching into Terry's Commercial Upholstery, Terry's Furniture Contractors and Abagail's Fabrics. In 2007, Steve and Diane Terry established Silverstone Enterprises, Inc., the parent company of Silverstone Home, Silverstone Business, Silverstone Fabrics and Silverstone Contract Fabrics. Since then, Silverstone has become a pioneering leader both residential and commercial upholstery, custom furniture, high-end fabrics, custom print-on-demand textiles, and leather hides. Our third iteration, Gallery Chair Contract, is looking forward to revolutionizing the commercial furniture industry with our modular design and custom-printed statement fabrics. At the Gallery Chair family of companies, we believe in providing functional design solutions without sacrificing quality, interest or beauty.
After graduation from Appalachian State University in 1978, Steve joined the family business, Terry’s Upholstery, located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The business had been established in 1959 by Steve’s parents, Mason and Virginia Terry and, of course, Steve grew up “at the shop.” In 1983, Steve took over Terry’s Upholstery and under his leadership, the business evolved into a regional upholstery company with clients throughout the southeast. Steve's extensive knowledge of high-end, luxury upholstery fabrics for use in both residential and contract settings spans three decades. In addition, his vast custom furniture experience gives him a unique perspective on furniture and textiles, allowing him to see fabric and seating both as art and as function.
Diane’s life “before furniture” was one of research, writing and teaching. After earning the MA in History from Appalachian State University in 1983, she taught World, American and Local History for 25 years--half of her career at Appalachian and half at Caldwell Community College. In 2007, she and husband, Steve, established Silverstone Enterprises, Inc. Under her direction, Silverstone has been transformed from a small home-based business to a company that has grown by 30% per year for the last eight years. In fact, Silverstone has allowed her to retire from teaching and join her husband full-time in the fabric and upholstery business. The company has shipped fabric and leather to every state in the union as well as to over twenty countries, and has done projects for movies, TV shows, major universities and corporate leaders. Diane’s research, writing and organizational skills, as well as her broad knowledge of history, art, industry and culture make her a valued and integral member of our team.
Octavia is a 2010 graduate of Appalachian State University, earning the BS degree in Biological Anthropology. She is also an avid horsewoman who, after graduation from college, followed her lifelong dream of working full-time with horses, particularly Arabian horses. Her equine resume includes work at such prestigious Arabian breeding farms as Om El-Arab in Santa Ynez, California and Talaria Farms in Newnan, Georgia. After returning to her native North Carolina, Octavia took a job at Horse Sense of the Carolinas near Asheville, a top-rated equine-assisted therapy center, where she worked with veterans' groups, victims of domestic violence and at-risk youth. While in Asheville, Octavia began working for Gallery Chair via internet on a part-time basis. At present, she is working full-time and in person here at Gallery Chair, bringing the older generation up to speed with computer technology and social media marketing. In her off hours, she enjoys working and playing with her two Arabian mares, Rosie and Tiffany.
